The short answers
Questions

How many schools are there?
Twelve, on four lines: The Railway, The Liner, The Parks and The Riviera. Each school is a way travel posters were painted in the year it names, and each one is shown on two sample places before you choose it.
What photograph should I send?
One you took of a place: a street, a harbour, a coast, a skyline, a square, a view from a window. Phone photos are fine. Daylight helps. The place is kept exactly: the same buildings, the same coastline, the same bend in the road.
What if the photograph has no place in it?
The engine says so and stops: "There is no place in that photograph to paint. Send one of a street, a coast, a skyline or a view you stood in front of. Nothing was rendered or counted." A selfie, a plate of food, a pet on a sofa or a page of text has no place in it to paint.
Will it paint the people in my photograph?
Only as small figures in the view, the way the old posters drew a promenade or a platform. No face is painted large. A portrait belongs at Painted Premiere, the sister studio that paints people, and a photograph that is mostly one face is refused here.
What will you not paint or set?
Three things, always. No real company, airline, railway, shipping line or hotel name or mark, painted in or typed on, because the old posters advertised those companies and yours advertises your place. No flags, and no symbols of hate. No face portraits. Everything else about the place is yours to keep.
How long does a render take?
Usually twenty to sixty seconds, and the page counts them as they pass. The poster lands at 1024 × 1536 and the postcard at 1536 × 1024, painted side by side from the same photograph.
What happens to my photograph?
It goes to the engine twice, once for the poster and once for the postcard, and is not kept. The render is stored so it can be printed: keep one and it lands on your wall, and write to us at support@painted.app and we delete it.
Can I put the name of the place on it?
Yes. The engine paints no lettering at all, so the type desk sets it afterwards: the place name, one line, and a year, in a face chosen for that school. Every word you type is screened, and a company or carrier name is the one thing refused.
Do I have to buy the render?
No. Looking is free, and every render is yours to refuse: we only print the one you chose.
What does it cost?
Prints and apparel run from $45 to $600, plus a flat postage set from the printer's own quotes. Looking costs nothing, and the file of your own render is sold on its own.
How many renders are free?
Four passes, on the house. A pass is one photograph through the engine, and it comes back twice: the upright poster and the wide postcard. After the four, ten more passes are $10.
How big does it print?
Up to 40 × 60″ on paper and 24 × 36″ on canvas. What you see on screen is what goes to the printer, rebuilt at print resolution the moment you pay.
Where do you ship?
To one hundred and twenty-one countries, from the nearest print house. Postage is a flat rate by size and region, set from the printer's own quotes for the biggest parcel in each size.
Can I cancel an order?
For an hour. A paid print order waits sixty minutes before it goes to the printer, and inside that hour one click on the confirmation page or your wall refunds it in full and nothing is produced. A file is delivered the moment you pay, so it skips the hold.
